Tumblehome author & longtime research paleontologist Barnas Monteith discusses the latest, most up to date discoveries in the world of vertebrate (dinosaur) paleontology, which prove just why and how dinosaurs evolved into modern day birds.
Barnas shows you the smallest dinosaur ever (only 4 inches), and the first fully intact dinosaur fossil with feathers, and complete bird-like dinosaur fossils discovered in China. You will be treated to some never-before-seen high power microscope (Scanning Electron Microscope) pictures of sauropod (like Brontosaurus) and theropod (like T-rex) dinosaur and bird eggs so you can see just how closely related they are.

Tumblehome will have a booth at the NSTA (National Science Teachers Association) national conference in St. Louis, April 11 – 14, 2019. We participated in two sessions: “Using Fiction and Poetry in the Science Classroom:Insights from Authors and Educators” featuring Tumblehome authors Penny Noyce and Cary Sneider and “Artificial Intelligence in the K-12 Classroom” featuring Barnas Monteith.

Resisting Scientific Misinformation
Tumblehome participated in a Sackler/National Academies of Science international colloquium “Advancing the Science and Practice of Science Communication: Misinformation About Science in the Public Sphere. The poster presenting our free curriculum unit on Resisting Scientific Misinformation was well received.

Library box book giveaway:
With the help of the Libra Foundation, Tumblehome is giving away “library boxes” of ten new science-based books to 120 school and town libraries in Maine.
As one librarian wrote, “We are a converted one-room schoolhouse, so a display of these treasures [will] easily be seen by all. We have a number of “after-schoolers” and recently hosted a 7th grade field trip with emphasis on conservation and ecology. . . “
And another: “What an opportunity for us to provide high quality nonfiction for our students while stretching our library budget – win, win!”
